Don also remixed O’Bryan’s “Soul Train’s a Comin”. Not since the “TSOP” theme of ’73–’74 had Soul Train had a better intro song, which is pretty much a big reason why Season 13 is my favorite season of all time. “Soul Train’s a Comin’” isn’t the most iconic theme of the show or easily remembered, but in so much as musical direction goes, here we see funk infused at a time when it was becoming increasingly difficult to make your mark in that world. In my opinion, the Season 13 theme song was executed perfectly in its funkiness without having been influenced by anything of its type. It didn’t sound like a Michael Jackson song; it didn’t sound like a Prince song. It didn’t sound like disco. It was the sound of the natural progression funk would’ve taken if it weren’t interrupted by disco. I was completely hypnotized by the show’s futuristic vision.
